I will be starting grad school in the fall and am required to have a car for the particular program I’m in. I am not planning to be employed at all during the time I am in school. I ended my job about three weeks ago so I could do some traveling before the school year starts. I will be receiving about $30,000 in grants, scholarships, and loans each school year. $10,000 of this will go to paying tuition, books, etc. and so I will therefore be living off the remaining $20,000. Is there any chance that when I go to apply for a car loan that they will consider these loans and scholarships as income in lieu of an actual earned income from a job? What are my chances of being approved as an unemployed student? I do have excellent credit.

Even with excellent credit, it may still be hard to convince a bank to lend you money without a job and also with the new debt you’ve recently added for the grad school program. What you may want to do is take some of the cash from the $20,000 in living expenses and get a cheaper, older, used car to carry you through this grad school program and then upgrade once you’ve landed the great job you’ll get once you finish school.

Most people find it very difficult to budget money when they get it in large lump sums versus when they get it in a regular pay check. The fewer regular scheduled monthly bills you have while you’re not working, the better off you’ll be. Good luck with school.

You should try a credit union rather than a bank, they are slightly less restrictive in their less guidelines.

Im looking to attract more clients and I was wondering for any loan officers who have done it, if putting in a 3 lined ad in a 200k circulated paper might be good for attracting promising clients. If so whats the guestimated number of calls that you have recieved from putting it in the sunday edition, and what are some reccomended tips on whats to say in the ad? "We will work with you"? "100% FHA financed"?

I ran a 1/8 page mortgage ad in a paper for 4 months once and got ZERO calls from it.

I paid off my auto 4 years ago. Now, the company is contacting me saying they made a mistake on the payoff amount and i have to pay them over 3000. I have the title and notice saying the loan was satisfied. Are there any legal actions that I can take?
Yeah, I paid the car off about 4 months after purchasing it. I paid it off when I sold my house.

First request your free credit reports from annualcreditreport.com or call them toll free @ 1-877-322-8228 for all 3 free reports. If it shows the account is closed on the report, let them do whatever they want. If you have the title, that’s even better. If they give you a hard time about it, just play their game and call them every 10 minutes and tell them you’re waiting for a call back from the president of the co.

I am entering my Sophomore year at a private, four year institution this year and still need to pay $7,649 before the beginning of the school year. This amount was determined after subtracting the total awards that the school awarded me from the total tuition for the school year.

Today I applied for a $3,500 Federal Stafford Loan through Nellie Mae.

Every road I take is a dead end in terms of finding a company with low interest rates. I am the first member of my family to attend a post-secondary institution, let alone full-time, and really have no idea what I’m doing.

Last year, my parents applied for a Federal Direct Loan for $6,000 and we’re currently paying on that amount.

I’m really worried that my total loan amount is going to be enormous when I graduate and that I will have no way of paying it off without living at home. Any suggestions about a good company or other financial advice is greatly appreciated, so much that I will reward someone with ten points.

i have waaaaaaaaay more in outstanding student loans than that. you’re right on track for going for the federal loans – they will give you below-market interest rates. the only problem is that it’s impossible to find anything lower until the fed stops jacking up the prime rate.

you should be able to take out federal loans for up to the entire expected student budget at your institution. talk to someone in your school’s financial aid office if you need help figuring out how to apply.

you’re right, it will suck to graduate with a large student loan overhead. but going to a good school will help you get a better job (or, get you into a better graduate program so you can rack up some more loans, but get a much better salary to pay them off with) and hopefully you should find it worthwhile in the end!

n.b. if you’re a full time student, neither you nor your family should be paying _anything_ on loans right now. they should all be set for "in school" status which means that you pay nothing until after you graduate. if you get a direct subsidized loan, it won’t even accrue interest during your 4 years. if you get a direct unsubsidized loan, then you’re looking at the interest compounding, which is not that great, but you still don’t pay anything until you graduate. if your loans are not set for in school status, you really need to talk with someone either at your school or at your lender.
